McComb to Brookhaven by Stevebeaux

I decided to post this one instead of using email.

Why McComb to Brookhaven?

I have never explored along the tracks between those two Mississippi towns located on the old Illinois Central Railroad.  I've used "duh tracks" for a few years to lead me to history and hunting history, what this blog was about. I'll try to keep it that way this time.

I have included a number of "looking down the tracks" photos. That is what a lot of people did "back in the day". They were the "way out" where dreams could come true and nightmares ended, the two tracks merging in the distance, a seemingly inaccessible point on the horizon to be pursued like the end of a rainbow.

Ok, so you get way way to many track pictures.
Geologically, and geographically, they follow the Bogue Chitto River, a powerful one in these parts.

The old rabbit, The Railroad, is getting old.  I think he's thinking of retiring and I may assist him in settling down and just doing guest leads.

I have contacted another rabbit, his grandson, Wylie.  If as wile as I, I think we'll get along.

But first, the ride.  It topped out at Brookhaven, from which I fled, again.  I flew east on US 84 until I settled down, drifting south among the little back roads until I had to hit a larger road to make time as the 3:00 buzzer had gone off, a point in time where turnarounds are enforced.

Recently, I read, looked at, a post whose basis seemed very similar to one I'd done a while back. At least the "inspiration" seemed to originate with me. That is fine. The author did a great job for which I am jealous.  I was so impressed ..... I had to copy an idea:

Cool, huh?
That is a little inside joke meant to illicit nothing.

And here's another nothing:

I had a specific target, Johnston's Station, Mississippi, why?
Because the name sounded old.

The gray, sometimes, red,  lines are my tracks.
You can see Johnson's Station above Summit.

I'd begin the expedition in Summit. Johnston Station Road was my second guess.

An early underpass and it's limitations.

Arriving at J. Station. Southern enough?

I had almost taken the truck. Damn.

A mill of some sort was there.  Remind me to include MS Rails' short mention of J. Station.
It's Here
That Wiley is not my future rabbit.

I kept hoping for a train.  Otherwise, looking down rails is kinda sad.

There was a bunch of stuff down there I missed.

The other way from the other side?

This shot is from Fox Road, map below if you need to get there.

You can see that Norfield is not on the railroad.  I never figured out the "Overpass Trail" deal.

You guessed it, this is the other way at the Fox crossing.

Those are not outhouses with tv's.  They are ..... I forgot the name.  They give the weather and whether a wheel is bout to fall off one them ol' trains.

I ran out of whereabouts lies.

THAT'S IT ..... EVEN STEVEBEAUX IS  BORED.

Out the country you find stuff.

Bogue Chitto is an old one.

You know the coincidences of the date and lumbering and railroading.

I think that's MS 44, not sure.

Leaving Bogue Chitto, I ventured down Hog Chain Road.   You tell me if I'm not a crazy.

The RR has a big installation there.  I think there is a guy inside that listens to all those brown outhouses.   Who'd thunk you'd find this down Hog Chain?

Another view of Hog Chain.  I'd say I was the first but maybe that other Beau beens here first. I know Google Earth has. Ain't anything sacred?

Nice road, but overexposed.

This road led to Mount Moriah Church.

Where there are some PATRIOTS. I will bet you there are War of 1812 Warriors buried there.

I was now approaching Brookhaven and I didn't want to be there.

North view from overpass (US 84)

South ... Same.

Worthwhile pic.

Another:

Big Jelly Roll Michot lived here.

Accommodations were tight for Big Jelly.

The evil cops of B town have taken it over.

One honked at me. I ran.

It wasn't like the first time I was there.

I'll have to put a link here so you can go east all the way to Bogalusa like I did.
Ok, Jimmy, this is the way you do it.

Settling down through the country.

It's on the map. More Patriots.

Hey B, I gotta show y'all the rock mountain near the Texaco Station that once had good food but has now gone to pot. I guess they'll try anything.

Sorry, I know even a rainy day can't help this one.
